“Three things pushed me to start YourWordsSTL. The first was the shooting at Sandy Hook. The second: the events surrounding Ferguson, and seeing the fear, anger, and frustration of St. Louisans. After these events, I sought opportunities to build community and serve the most under-resourced populations in St. Louis, especially children who don’t have parents or don’t have strong role models. The third thing was Steve, who saw these challenges in the same light and invited me to start a tutoring and writing organization for underserved children. Within a week we were setting up pilot workshops.”
Anna is a mother, writer, teacher, and former physician.
